Not for the very young - My Life as a Courgette review by AA

Spoiler Alert
23/02/2018

The subject matter is far too adult for very young children and I think that should be said before they say it is for children. I was completely unprepared for the traumas that the little children in the film go through.

To start off with a drunk, abusive and then dead mother does not make for good viewing for sensitive children.

However, it is well done and ultimately delightful, once past that hurdle.

I would recommend they be at least over 7.

Love this genre of film, but this one simply passed me by. Can’t explain my reticence really, but I simply lost interest after 20 minutes.

Short but packs an emotional punch - My Life as a Courgette review by TB

What a wonderful animation film that stands out from the crowd. Right from the very beginning the emotional connection to Courgette is cemented by the well directed and filmed movements and expressions of the animated character, without any real need for words.

The stories that bring all the children together are harrowing. However, after the initial moments of exclusion and feeling like the odd one out in a strange place, Courgette finds the love he’s never really had.

The friendships, love and understanding from the eyes of a child is portrayed with great beauty and this really is a superb animated film that left me not only feeling warm inside but wanting to adopt each and every one of them.

Great viewing for adults and children (probably 8 or over)
