Awkward Brooklyn kid Jake (Frankie Muniz) is sent to live with his racetrack bookie dad, Zowie (Harvey Keitel), in Miami, where pal Rickie (Ryan Cabrera) pulls him into the orbit of the idle in crowd. But through a friendship with ethereal older model Marina (Amber Valletta), Jake learns to find his own footing. Kinship turns to intimacy in this sensitive coming-of-age tale set in the 1970's and told in reflection by the now successful writer.
