Benedict Cumberbatch stars in the title role in this adaptation of Shakespeare's tragedy, directed by Lyndsey Turner and performed at London's National Theatre. Embittered by the death of his father the King (Karl Johnson), and subsequent marriage of his mother, the Queen (Anastasia Hille), to his uncle (Ciarán Hinds), Prince Hamlet is further discomfited when he encounters the ghost of his late father on the castle battlements. The ghost tells Hamlet that he was murdered and must be avenged. But Hamlet's efforts to bring the culprit to justice are continually thwarted by his own indecision, leading to madness and death for those around him.
