Based on the legend of the Swiss figure William Tell, the expert archer who sparked a rebellion. William Tell is ordered to the Swiss town of Altsdorf to free his son who has been imprisoned by the pompous Austrian Governor Gessler. For his son to be released, William must bow down to the Governor's hat in the town square as a mark of respect for Austria, but when William refuses, his punishment is to shoot an apple off the top of his son's head, otherwise they will be both charged with treason and thrown into jail. William shoots the arrow off his son's head and they are both free. But not for long...
