Set in a small French town, the pleasant mild-mannered Pierre (Gerald Laroche) takes a job on the night shift production line of a small, automated bottle factory to earn more money for the house he is building for his wife and 12-year-old son. On the first night he encounters the charismatic and violent Fred (Marc Barbe) who initially offers his hand of friendship. As time goes by it is clear that behind the welcoming facade is a vicious and sadistic mind at work and that Fred is not just intent on crushing the newcomer with bullying and humiliating tactics, but that he is out to destroy the very fabric of Pierre's life -- which he secretly covets. The more the kindly benevolent Pierre tries to placate his antagonist and make allowances for Fred's cruel behaviour, the worse things get until the dynamic between them generates a disturbing life-or-death terror. This explosive emotional drama is dramatically and skilfully set against the background of the factory's glass manufacturing process with its dangerous, hazardous fires, entwining and heightening the real physical and emotional dangers and tensions they must endure.
