- The marital difficulties of four couples living in a southern California housing development become intertwined. Among the unhappy couples are ne'er-do-well Jerry Flagg (Tony Randall) and his long-suffering wife Isabelle (Sheree North), flirtatious Leola Boone (Joanne Woodward) and her sadistic husband Troy (Cameron Mitchell), hard working Herman Kreitzer (Pat Hingle) and his understanding wife Betty (Barbara Rush), and newlyweds Jean (Patricia Owens) and David (Jeffrey Hunter) Martin.
