A film based on the events of the last years in the life of Gisela Elsner, a writer who committed suicide in 1992. The narrative condenses events into a series of meetings with friends and relations. The writer, called Hanna (Hannelore Elsner) in the film, travels from her Munich home to Berlin, where she is, in the main, rebuffed by old acquaintances and friends. Deciding to return to Munich, she stops at Nuremberg, receiving once again a cold welcome, precipitating the tragic events to come.
