His outstanding haul of twenty race victories heralded a number of unique achievements. His big race successes included two King George VI victories in 1995 and 1996; in the latter he shattered the Kempton Park three mile course record. One Man also won over 3 ¼ miles in the Hennessy Cognac Gold Cup at Huntingdon and finally over the minimum trip of two miles in the Queen Mother Champion Chase at the Cheltenham National Hunt Festival. No horse has ever won both the King George and the Champion Chase, and the victory at Cheltenham silenced his critics and elevated him to the status of All Time Great . It was the manner of his victories which was so impressive, and that so endeared the grey to the racing public. One Man had an incredible cruising speed, was a sensational jumper of fences, and above all had a wonderful temperament. This is a dramatic and moving story, told by John and Lisa Hales, and featuring, amongst others, Richard Dunwoody, Tony Dobbin, Neale Doughty, Brian Harding, One Man s lass Audrey Walker, and trainer s son Nicky Richards. Integral to One Man s success was his legendary trainer Gordon Richards, who sadly passed away in October 1998. This video features a tribute to Gordon by those closest to him, and closes a chapter on one of the greatest racing stories. This video is scripted by Alastair Down and voiced by Sir Peter O Sullevan CBE.
