A British answer to 'Homicide: Life on the Streets', 'Out of the Blue' follows the personal and professional lives of an embattled detective team investigating grisly murders in a hostile and divided Sheffield community. High-flying head of Brazen Gate CID DS Frankie Drinkall (John Hannah) is stunned when he is diagnosed with epilepsy. His stubborn decision to carry on regardless and hide his condition from his colleagues leads him into a perilous downward spiral. Meanwhile fiery DS Rebecca Bennett (Orla Brady) is sidetracked by the affections of both DC Warren Allen (Darrell D'Silva) and PC Alex Holder (Stephen Billington), and DC Marty Brazil (Neil Dudgeon) offers light relief as the effervescent joker in the pack. In the second season, perpetually ruffled DS Jim Llewyn (David Morrissey) takes over the department, but appears to be working to a personal agenda, and soon comes under investigation from the rest of the team. Fast-paced and intense, each episode tackles tough topics of hateful crime and suspect morality - on both sides of the law.
