- The series revolves around Evie Ethel Garland (Maureen Flannigan), who is the daughter of Troy (Burt Reynolds) and Donna (Donna Pescow) Garland...Donna tells Evie to be friends with a new boy at school. But when Evie tells her mother, the boy's obnoxious but Donna tells her he needs a friend. Donna has an unpleasant encounter with the boy's father who is just as obnoxious not knowing who he is. Evie decides to invite the boy and his father to the house for dinner to show Donna what she has to deal with...
