Complete first series of the British television comedy about two mismatched couples who meet in the village's local cricket team over the course of one long, hot summer. Bohemian Kevin and Maggie Costello (Timothy Spall and Josie Lawrence) are a complete contrast to uptight Mim Dervish (Brenda Blethyn) and her fanatical cricketer husband Roger (Robert Daws). As the two women form a tentative friendship, and the two men form a friendly rivalry, Mim discovers a long-stifled independent streak, something that has unforseen repercussions.
1. The Captain Roger's dreams of an easy win at today's cricket match begin badly when his Volvo won't start. Kevin comes to his rescue in his battered Renault, but he brings Maggie with him. This is the first time that Roger and Mim have met her and they're gobsmacked!
2. Getting to Know You Maggie and Min get on like a house on fire and it looks like the start of a great new friendship. Maggie has other things to contend with, however, as Dennis - the team 'wolf in wimp's clothing' tries his hand at chatting her up...
3. The Committee Meeting Mim's catering skills are put to the test when the team turn up on her doorstep for a meeting that Roger's not told her about. She gets even more upset when she overhears the men saying that they don't intend to take their wives away on the next trip.
4. Sex Roger approaches Kevin for some tips on spicing up both his and Mim's sex life. Kevin is only too happy to oblige but the outcome is not quite what Roger anticipates!
5. The Team Tea Maggie confronts the heartache of being unable to conceive, and in the race against her biological timeclock she learns her test results from the doctor...
6. The Night Before Cromer Tension mounts as the team and their wives arrive at the hotel in Cromer for the away match with arch enemy Fatty Woolacott. Roger gives them all strict instructions to have an early night and puts a complete ban on 'naughties'...
7. The Match in Cromer The day of the all-important Cromer away match dawns and the team are playing well. Will Roger finally realise his dream and beat arch-rival Fatty Woolacott or has fate got something else in store?
