The story of the Mancunian Film Company began in 1927 when John E. Blakeley made his first series of 'singalong silents'. His dream of opening a film studio in Manchester became a reality in 1947 when he fulfilled his ambition of "Northern films for Northern people". Jimmy James is often hailed as the 'comedian's comedian'. He developed one of the funniest stage routines in variety history and his first film for Mancunian was 'Over the Garden Wall' with Norman Evans playing his wife! Evans was an inspiration to comedians such as Les Dawson and become a big star in the States. In 'Over the Garden Wal'l a working class couple (James and Evans) are planning to give their only daughter and their new GI son-in-law a right Northern welcome. As always though riotous trouble starts to flare up when a young man starts to flirt with James and Evans' daughter!
