Profile of the life and work of the great French Post-Impressionist painter. Cezanne's work could be said to form a bridge between late 19th century Impressionism, and the 20th century's bold new form of artistic expression, Cubism. Forming a friendship with Impressionist painter Camille Pissarro during the mid 1860's, Cezanne's work initially comprised a light, airy style, often concerned with the figure in the landscape. As his work matured, he developed a more solid, architectural style of painting, structuring the objects he painted into simplified forms and colour planes.
