- Set during Madrid's punk era, Pedro Almodovar's provocative first feature is an outrageous comedy that acts as a suggestive satire about women who ignore society's rules. Docile housewife Luci , her trendy, narijuana smoking neighbour Pepi and rock star Bom are close friends, but events take a shocking when Pepi is raped by a policeman. Pepi vows revenge, and of course her buddies are on hand to make sure she gets it. Covering topics such as female masochism, addiction and sexual violence, this first feature set the template for the director's subsequent career. Made on the lowest of budgets, it still however boasts costumes to die for.
