Unique biographical animation, which brings home some of the realities facing those living under the Iran system.
I really enjoyed the visuals on offer, a real change after the realism of WALL-E and just a effective in delivering the storyline. At times the film does lose its way somewhat, in particular when we leave Iran. However its well worth checking out.
Persepolis tells a powerful story with a striking style, even if it doesn’t quite hit every emotional beat. Given Iran’s regime and its harsh crackdowns on dissenting filmmakers, it’s clear why animation was the only option. It’s bold, personal, and political—if a touch heavy-handed in places.
