Katherine Mansfield was a rebel. A modernist writer known for her short stories, she counted Virginia Woolf and DH Lawrence amongst her friends. Brought up in New Zealand, Mansfield left for London when she was 15 angry at her homeland for its repression of the Maori people. Settled in England, the writer recorded romantic relationships with both men and women in her journals and married John Middleton-Murray (Jeremy Brett) when she was 23, though their marriage was not without troubles... Mansfield's life was tragically cut short when she died of tuberculosis aged just 34. This is her story. Each hour-long episode in this magnetic series features a dramatisation of a moment in Mansfied's fascinating life, and an adaptation of one of her short stories. The legendary Oscar winning actress Vanessa Redgrave stars as Mansfield, whilst Sherlock Holmes star Jeremy Brett plays her husband John Middleton-Murray. - Actors:

Something Adult and Entirely Natural - A Picture of Katherine Mansfield review by CH
This is very well done in its blending of scenes from Katherine Mansfield's life with dramatic versions of her short stories. Perhaps one needs to know something of her life to appreciate the biographical scenes (which are a shorter part of the eposodes), and it jumps over a visit to Paris - when she diverted to the Front (or, rather, close to it) for an assignation with a lover who was in the Army. This series is perhaps best watched an episode (two stories) at a time.
