Based on a true story Planespotting tells the story of 14 harmless plane spotters who find themselves arrested for behaving 'suspiciously' at an airbase in remote Greece. What started out as an extraordinary farce soon became deadly serious when the spotters were held in squalid Greek prisons. At the centre of the scandal are The Coppins, a belated honeymoon coupled played by Lesley Sharp and Mark Benton who had organised the trip as part of their belated honeymoon. With diplomatic intervention comes more trouble as Greek national pride is stirred and the group are forced to spend five weeks locked up awaiting trial. The result sees the group sensationally convicted of spying and given suspended prison sentences. Facing mounting legal bills, the groups freedom is at stake with each and every spotter now having to appeal to clear their name.
