- The Freeling family (JoBeth Williams, Craig T. Nelson, Heather O'Rourke) may have settled into a new home... but the spirts of the dead have not given up their desire to possess Carol Anne. Led by Kane (Julian Beck), a demon disguised as a preacher, the spirts attempt to convince Carol Anne to join them on "the other side". But when the plan fails, Kane inleashes the hellish fury of the Poltergeist on the Freelings...forcing the desperate family to turn for help to a mysterious medicine man, a medium, a grandmother and, most of all, to each other.

A SPIRITED effort which lacks the Spielberg magic. - Poltergeist 2: The Other Side review by Spoons
It's one of Hollywood's worst kept secrets that Steven Spielberg and not the late Tobe Hooper directed Poltergeist and it certainly shows in this sequel. That's not to say that The Other Side is a bad movie because it isn't. As a stand alone horror flick it's fine, it just lacks that magic that Spielberg injects into his movies.
