Synopsis:
Take a richly-human story of survival and triumph, a soundtrack by one of the hottest acts ever and the startling presence and musicality of rock superstar Prince - the man who lived the music - and you've got what may be in Rolling Stone's words "the smartest, most spiritually ambitious rock 'n' roll movie ever made". Winner of Grammy and Academy Awards for its pulsating song score, Purple Rain m...arked the movie debut of Prince as The Kid, a Minneapolis musician as alienated as he talented. The Kid struggles with a tumultuous homelife and his own smouldering anger while taking refuge in his music and his steamy love for sexy Apollonia Kotero.
Prince and The Revolution perform 'Let's Go Crazy', 'I Would Die 4 U', 'When Doves Cry' and the title song. And "Purple Rain showers us with unexpected pleasures", Stephan Schaefer wrote in US. "Musically it is a triumphant firestorm".

Poor disc, poor film, some great music - Prince: Purple Rain review by DS

Spoiler Alert
07/09/2019

No extra features at all on disc, just a 'don't even think about copying this or the FBI will send you straight to jail forever' message.

There don't even seem to be any chapter points.

The film itself is pretty rubbish - little plot, poor characterisation, pretty pervy.

However, some of the music (effectively the first side of the album) is absolutely great, with longer versions of the songs. Slightly let down by muddy stereo mix (I don't have a cinema setup, so 5:1 may be better.
