Robert Stephens and Virginia McKenna star in director Tony Palmer's film about famed Italian composer Giacomo Puccini and the scandalous love affair that almost destroyed his career and led to the creation of his opera, "Turandot." Palmer's film co-stars actors Rupert Graves and Bill Fraser, and features Sir Alexander Gibson conducting the Scottish National Orchestra and the Scottish Opera Chorus in works by Puccini.
