"Purple Sunset" unfolds the late summer in 1945 right after the atomic bomb attacked on Nagasaki. In China, Japanese troop has been sweeping off innocent lives one village after another. Near the end of World War II, during a harsh winter season, a Soviet Army unit enters China and engages Japanese troops in a big battle. When the fighting is over there are only three survivors: one Russian soldier, one Chinese soldier and one Japanese soldier. Stuck in deep snow in a forest far from civilization, the three survivors are forced to band together in order to keep alive. Cut off from the rest of the world and not entirely trusting one another, they band together on a long and danger-filled journey, gradually developing a friendship that crosses borders. Along the journey they capture a young Japanese girl, who intentionally leads them into a minefield and gets the Russian commander killed. Hate crawls under the cover of betrayal, but friendships grows beyond the surface of caution and hope.
