Colditz Oflag IVC was built on a high rock overlooking the Mulde Valley in Saxony. Allied Officers were sent there so that they could never escape again, yet over three hundred attempts were made including eighteen 'home runs'. A testament to man's ingenuity in the quest for his freedom, this incredible programme details the impersonations, tunnels and even the two man glider built in the roof.
Dunkirk By May 1940 German tanks had crossed the Meuse and reached the Channel. Winston Churchill implemented Operation Dynamo to evacuate troops from the French port of Dunkirk. Between 27th May and 4th June nearly three hundred and fifty thousand men were brought safely back to England in the biggest naval rescue of all time.
Over The Wall On August 13th, 1961 building commenced on die Berliner Mauer, the wall that would divide the world for nearly thirty years, as well as the city of Berlin. During that period more than five thousand people escaped to freedom, but over two hundred lost their lives. To this day even the phrase Checkpoint Charlie evokes the deception and fear that existed every day in East and West Berlin.
