- Rescue Me is an American drama series about the men and women who work at the Engine 99 Firehouse in New York City, especially Tommy Gavin (Denis Leary), a man deeply affected by the events of 9/11 which includes the loss of his best friend, a fellow fireman. The series follows Tommy as he tries to come to terms with the events of 9/11 and move forward but struggles because of his complex family life and the pressures that come with doing the job he does. The series looks at the scars that 9/11 caused for firemen as well as the people of New York.
