Based on documented evidence, the film depicts one of the most tragic chapters in the history of Crimea – the deportation of Crimean Tatars on May 18, 1944. The stories about that terrible day have been passed from generation to generation. It is well-known that during all critical times children, women, and the elderly carry the heaviest burden. “Haytarma” is one of the first movies produced by a former Soviet Union state which depicts Stalin’s crimes against various ethnic groups. The film reproduces the story of those defensless people, who one early morning were loaded into cattle cars and transported without any reason or explanation from Crimea to Russia’s Ural region and Uzbekistan. Almost half of them died on the road or in the first years of exile from malnutrition, disease, and maltreatment. - Actors:
