Richard The Lioneart The reign of Richard I, known as "The Lionheart", has long since passed into legend. His name is still inextricably linked with Robin Hood and, of course, his own brother John, who tried to usurp the throne of England. Thus have grown the half-truths and misconceptions, turning a complex story into a fairytale of simplistic good and evil. This reconstruction featuring atmospheric re-enactments and dramatised "eye-witness" accounts serves to separate fact from fiction. It tells the story of the crusader King who spoke little English and spent only 6 months of his reign in England yet somehow left an indelible mark on English history.
The Crusaders From the year 1096 the medieval world was plunged into violence as the conflict between Christianity and Islam provoked the savage wars we know now as "The Crusades". For nearly 2 centuries generations of knights from England and Western Europe marched on the Holy Land in an attempt to rescue it from the clutches of the marauding Saracens. This film recreates the epic saga of this brutal period in history climaxing with the Third Crusade and Richard The Lionheart's treaty with the Saracen's Saladin.
