The Roman Frontier in Germany, the so called Limes was of special importance for the safety of Rome. Stretching more than 500 km, the Limes is one of the largest monuments built in antiquity. More than sixty forts, numerous fortlets and about 900 watchtowers were occupied by several thousand Roman soldiers. They had to secure and control the territories north of the Danube and east of the Rhine. The importance and value of the Limes was recently recognised by UNESCO. Now Hadrian's Wall and the Limes form the first trans-national World Heritage Site. The interactive main documentary features the history of the Roman frontier in Germany also in relation to Hadrian's Wall. 24 short films about special topics, including a short film about Hadrian's Wall and the Antonine Wall in Britain create an interesting insight into Roman archaeology.
