Christmas Eve 1775. For celebrants at Parker Plantation, it's a time of joy and giving. For enslaved friends Fiddler and Kunta Kinte (Louis Gossett, Jr. and LeVar Burton reprising their original roles from the landmark miniseries Roots), it's a chance to give other slaves the most precious gift of all: freedom. Inspired by the bravery of a murdered "free man of color" (Avery Brooks), they lead a caravan of desperate runaways through a network of safe havens to a getaway boat. They load the runaways into the boat...and discover there's room enough for only one more passenger. A painful choice must be made. Ultimately, a Mandinka warrior can never abandon his friend.
