- The story spans three decades, beginning in the 1930s and follows the fortunes of the charismatic Carey-Lewis family, their friends and their enchanting Cornish ancestral home of Nancherrow. When Judith Dunbar is sent to boarding school she makes friends with the wild and carefree Loveday Carey-Lewis. It is friendship which is set to last forever, from the halcyon days of their youth filled with passion, fun and romance through all the troubles of the Second World War and into married life.
