Synopsis:
Philippe Jordan conducts the Paris Opera Orchestra and Chorus in this production of Camille Saint-Saëns' opera with Aleksandrs Antonenko and Anita Rachvelishvili performing the title roles. Dalila, a woman with many attires, declared her love to Samson in a most romantic manner: "My heart opens to your voice as the flowers open with the kisses of the dawn". But behind this bewildering beauty lies the trickery since the betrayal follows: Dalila denounces Samson to his enemies. A masterpiece of the repertoire that has not been played for a century. The opera of Saint-Saëns was born thanks to the insistence of Franz Liszt in 1877. It is inspired by a violent and erotic biblical subject and will be played fifteen years later, in 1892, at the Palais Garnier. During his first performance, this opera includes the then unpublished dance of the "priestesses of Dagon". He will be one of the most played French operas in the world with Faust and Carmen. This new production directed by Philippe Jordan returns thus to the Opéra national of Paris.
