Part of the documentary series looking at the most significant battles of the Second World War. This volume traces the course of one of the war's more obscure campaigns, the 14-week conflict between Finland and the Soviet Union over the winter of 1939/40. Although the Finns were eventually beaten by the Soviets, their determined and resourceful resistance cost the Red Army a million casualties and helped convince Hitler of Soviet weakness in the face of his own planned invasion of the USSR. Also featured is the history of the German invasion of Norway and Denmark in 1940,the precursor to the German invasion of France,Belgium and the Low Countries a few months later.
