1952 in the GDR: The illegitimately condemned young Communist Antonia Berger (Alexandra Maria Lara) reaches the small Fürstenberg after many years in the Soviet Union. She is received by the socialist district leadership in all honor, she takes care of her seriously ill daughter, gives her a nice apartment and a dignified work. Antonia, who after many years of pain and loneliness no longer thought this possible, creates new hope. The solidarity that she experiences in the young country renews her belief in the future in the spirit of justice. She falls in love with the doctor Konrad (Robert Stadlober), who has decided against the comfortable life of his family in Hamburg. Antonia wins a new life and should pay a price for it: from her time in the Soviet Union, she should be silent.
