They call him 'The Baby Maker', and to married couples desperate to have children but unable to conceive, he seemed like the answer to their prayers. But behind Dr. Cecil Jacobson's seemingly honourable motives lay a much darker reality about the paternity of the children he helped to 'create'. Dr. Cecil Jacobson (George Dzundza) is larger than life, both physically and professionally. He is also a well-respected expert on fertility medicine and artificial insemination, and his reputation attracts couples from all levels of society who are facing the agony of not being able to conceive a child naturally. Among those who seek Dr. Jacobson's help is Mary Bennett (Melissa Gilbert), whose main aim in life is to have a child. Thanks to Dr. Jacobson, Mary's dreams are realised. But her joy, and that of other prospective parents, is destroyed as terrible suspicions start to surface about the appalling and unethical measures this supposed 'miracle doctor' has taken to deceive them - perhaps even secretly fathering their children himself.
