The scion of an aristocratic British family has called on Holmes (Jeremy Brett) because his wife to be, an American heiress, disappeared on the morning of the wedding. Holmes is not amused and finds the case uninteresting, especially when compared to past adversaries such as Moriarty. "He was a giant of evil", says Holmes, "without him, I'm obliged to deal with pygmies of triviality". However, Lord St. Simon (Simon Williams) may not be as clean-cut as he appears to be and when the great detective begins to dig deeper he finds that the noble aristocrat is actually a man with dark secrets of his own...
