Shine On Harvey Moon was the first great series to be created by the writing partnership of Laurence Marks and Maurice Gran who went on to create such comedy classics as Birds of a Feather and Goodnight Sweetheart. Originally broadcast on ITV in 1982, Shine On Harvey Moon features a superb cast including Kenneth Cranham, Maggie Stead, Linda Robson, Pauline Quirke and Elizabeth Spriggs. It is 1945 and Corporal Harvey Moon is demobbed and returns home to London's East End. Everyone believed that the former Clapton Orient footballer had been killed in action so plenty has been going on in his absence. Harvey soon realises that while he was away everything and everyone changed. He tries to rebuild his life and home and becomes involved with the Union and local Labour Party. His wife, Rita, is working in a dubious night club and keeps American Gis happy while his son Stanley is growing up fast. Daughter Maggie is now a young woman and Harvey has his work cut out keeping everyone happy and out of trouble.
