Howard (Jeff Goldblum) is about to turn 40. If that's not bad enough, he's married to Elizabeth (Mimi Rogers), a spiteful loudmouth who will go to any extreme to embarrass her passive husband. So, when he decides he truly wants for his 40th birthday is to kill his wife! The bumbling Howard concocts a plan to rid his life of Elizabeth forever. First, he convinces her they should take a vacation on the coast of Spain. Once there, and isolated, he forges a note in which Elizabeth explains that she is leaving him. Next, he buys a silencer and awaits her arrival in their room for an intimate birthday "celebration". Elizabeth never arrives and Howard retires with the belief that his wife will continue to make his life miserable. The following day, Howard discovers a note from his wife saying she has left him! What could be more perfect? Howard returns home completely fulfilled - his wife has gone, he's not a murderer and he has the sympathy and support of their circle of friends. But Howard's dream becomes a nightmare when the discarded gun is discovered and he finds himself under investigation for murder! Elizabeth is still nowhere to be found and all fingers point to Howard! Even "dead" Elizabeth is managing to ruin his life! Howard has only one choice... he must find Elizabeth... - Actors:
