This semi-autobiographical film sees Gracie Fields play Sally Scowcroft, a mill-worker who is plucked from obscurity and thrust towards fame and fortune by an ailing composer (Owen Nares) who needs a singer to perform his work. A departure from Fields' earlier films, "The Show Goes On" is less concerned about everyday working people overcoming adversity and instead tells a story very similar to Fields' own rise to stardom. Full of classic songs and with an extravagant breathtaking all-singing-and-dancing finale.
