"Simon and the Oaks" is based upon the bestselling novel by Marianne Fredriksson. It is the first adaptation of of her books. The story revolves around Simon (Bill Skarsgård / Jonatan S. Wächter), who grows up in a working class family in the outskirts of Gothenburg during the Second World war. Despite a loving home, Simon feels different and an outsider. A gifted child, Simon's parents try to enroll him into typical schools for working class families. Simon meets Isak (Karl Linnertorp), son of a wealthy Jewish bookseller who fled Germany. The two boys and their families experience life while war rages on through Europe. At the close of war, Simon starts to understand that there are secrets in his family - secrets which lead him to Europe and change his life for good.
