Wartime songs had it all: pathos, happiness, sarcasm, wit, you name it. Memories and feelings come flooding back some happy some sad, but more than anything what evoked the period were the songs. Max performed these songs here to audiences in drill halls hospitals, gun sites, air raid shelters - even submarines! Now freshly recorded, these songs bring that breath of nostalgia that lingers in most of us.
Whether we were there or not, their appeal has hardly diminished.
