Synopsis:
Sir Simon Rattle took up his post as chief conductor of the Berliner Philharmoniker in 2002. In doing so, he took over an inheritance which was not only demanding, but which required a delicate balance of tradition and innovation. The Liverpool-born artist has enriched the Anglo-American repertoire of the Berliner Philharmoniker with works by Britten, Elgar, Gershwin and Bernstein (included in this compilation with the American Night from the Waldbühne 1995). Discover some of the most remarkable and intriguing concerts of Sir Simon Rattle with the Berliner Philharmoniker. The recordings in this set not only illustrate the sheer range of Sir Simon Rattle’s repertoire, they also represent a chronological outline of the various stages of his career with the Berliner Philharmoniker. Including the Europakonzert 2008 from Moscow, the American Night from the Waldbühne 1995 with Highlights from Gershwin and Bernstein, the New Year’s Eve Concert’s from 2006 with Mitsuku Uchida and 2017 with Joyce DiDonato and Simon Rattle’s “first” Tosca from the Easter Festival Baden-Baden.
