- On 18th July 1936, the military garrisons of 17 cities rose in rebellion against the communist government of Spain. The spark that ignited the Spanish Civil War was the confrontation in the Spanish Moroccan city of Melilla, between a unit of the Spanish Foreign Legion and a communist-led mob. Using unique original newsreel footage, this video takes you through all major battles and incidents throughout the three years of Civil War in Spain, including the surrender in March 1939.
