Over the years the Spitfire has come to represent the spirit that saved the country in the desperate days when Britain stood alone, and remains in our minds, to this day, the aircraft that saved Britain from invasion and defeat. 'Spitfire: The Birth of a Legend' tells the story of Britain's most famous fighter, from its radical early designs on the drawing board of creator R.J. Mitchell to its eventual status as the symbol of Britain's unwavering determination during WWII. Using a combination of wonderful archive footage and dramatic reconstruction, together with first-hand accounts from those involved in designing and producing the famous fighter, as well as the pilots who flew and fought in this celebrated aircraft during its finest hour against the Luftwaffe, this is a fitting tribute to an aircraft that is quite simply in a class of its own.
