Richard Maunsell held the position of CME at Southern Railway from 1923 until 1937. Despite the SR's trailblazing emphasis on electrification during Maunsell's time,he was still able to design some very special main-line passenger locomotives. First successfully developing Urie's flawed N15 Class into the King Arthur Class,Maunsell then went on to create the impressively powerful Lord Nelson and Schools classes.
