This programme takes a look at the some of the thousands of steam engines operated by the Great Western Railway until nationalisation in 1948. The GWR arguably produced many of the finest locos ever built, and many are preserved. The programme includes the prolific Hall class, featuring Raveningham Hall and Owsden Hall, the Castle class Nunnary Castle, and the several preserved examples of the Manor class. Steam locos from the Severn Valley, West Somerset and the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railways, as well as the main line are included in this programme.
