In the lower ranges of the Alps, there is a rack railway operating 2000 metres above sea level. The steam engines operating this line were built between 1897 and 1902 and are still in daily use. Through steep and difficult terrain the railway climbs 1200 metres. At the half way point, water is refilled. Two tunnel systems have to be passed until the railway reaches the top of the mountain. Have a look at the new rail cars as well. Enjoy the beautiful ride through the marvellous mountains of the Austrian Alps.
