Alex Rider (Alex Pettyfer) is a normal teenager who lives with his uncle, a nondescript bank manager... or so it seems, until Uncle Ian Rider (Ewan McGregor) dies in mysterious circumstances. Alex discovers his uncle was in fact a spy and has been murdered by Yassen Gregorovich (Damian Lewis), one of the most dangerous assassins in the world. Recruited by Mr Blunt (Bill Nighy) and Mrs Jones (Sophie Okonedo) of the Special Operations Division of MI6, the schoolboy realizes that by encouraging his hobbies his uncle has thoroughly prepared him for a career in espionage. Linguist, scuba diver, mountaineer, crack shot and martial arts expert, Alex has all the attributes to make the perfect teenage superspy. Ryder, Alex Ryder - Stormbreaker review by CP Customer
I have to admit I avoided watching this one in the cinema as I thought it would be a rather tired children's version of James Bond.
It isn't. Though no masterpiece by any means this film has it moments. Good action scenes and comedy moments.. Bill Nighy is excellent as the comedically somber Mr Blunt

James Bond for kids! - Stormbreaker review by CP Customer
A fun family film which revolves around Alex Rider, a young secret agent on a mission to stop the deadly antics of Mickey Rourke's evil villain. A number of famous faces crop up in very small roles, which seems like a bit of a waste of good talent. Good story, but a bit predictable, so probably more interesting for the kids. Some great James Bond type gadgets, with the younger generation in mind.
