Johan August Strindberg (1849-1912) was the father of modern Swedish literature and a pioneer of modern theater and drama. Painting true, rather than pretty pictures, Strindberg attained a level of psychological realism equaled by few dramatists before or since. In the three One-Act mini-dramas presented on this exclusive video, love, ambition, religion, friendship, trust, and duty are all examined with the playwright's iconoclastic flair, and showcase Strindberg's revolutionary vision that is an artistic ancestor to both Expressionism and Surrealism. V.I.E.W. is proud to present the critically acclaimed Strindberg and His Women, vibrant dramatizations of three One-Act plays by the Swedish Master. Faithful to the playwright's spirit, the production intentionally employs austere settings and understated costumes to focus attention on the carefully crafted scripts and the core conflicts of the characters' souls. Revealing and occasionally painful, the plays' uncompromising realism is affectedly written and performed with an intensity of emotional power rivaled only by its cathartic potential.
