- Synopsis:
- New York City homemaker Rita (Joanne Woodward) is tortured by her own aloofness and empty lifestyle. Her unfolding emotional crisis forces her to reexamine her childhood, as well as her problematic relationships with her demanding mother (Sylvia Sidney), her husband (Martin Balsam), her alienated daughter and estranged son (Ron Richards).
