Synopsis:
Super League's second Grand Final proved to be one of the most dramatic matches in the history of the game. Bradford had bulldozed St Helens 40 points to 4 in the play-off series, but Saints had their revenge with victory in this nerve-shredding epic, as two teams at the peak of their powers fought like gladiators in front of a packed crowd. Points were at a premium and every one gained was hard earned as St Helens defence time and time again repelled the onrushing Bulls. So often Bradford got within touching distance of the try line only to be denied, before Saints took their opportunity to sneak in front and hold on. There were heroic performances all over the pitch from such legendary players as Robbie and Henry Paul, Sean Long, James Lowes and Paul Sculthorpe. While masterminding the Saints victory from the sidelines was perhaps the greatest of them all, Ellery Hanley. The dramatic game and celebrations in full, this is a complete record of the battle for rugby league s biggest prize.
