Synopsis:
It's the near future and the world finally faces up to the ultimate threat - not nuclear war or a terrorist attack - but the eruption of a gigantic 'Supervolcano' simmering beneath Yellowstone park. This factual drama tells the story of a devastating disaster waiting to happen...74,000 years ago, the last super-volcanic eruption plunged the world into darkness for six years, heralded an Ice Age and reduced the human population to the brink of extinction. The next promises to be equally devastating - and it is already overdue... Scientists, politicians and the press are the first to sense the imminent disaster, but none can really envisage its cataclysmic consequences.
As the bulging, molten lava bursts through the Earth's crust, local news feeds, diary footage, CCTV, family camcorder and real archive footage follow the ensuing human drama. As the devastating aftermath across the globe is revealed - environmentally, politically, economically and socially - the post-apocalyptic confusion takes hold. Can the human species ever recover from such a monumental event?

I'd recommend watching Dante's Peak instead - Supervolcano review by RunDeckardRun

Spoiler Alert

There's an air of slight desperation about the two installments that make up Supervolcano due to, I strongly suspect, some late decisions to try and increase the drama and realism. It starts by showing you a clip of the ending, as if to generate extra tension and interest, but merely reinforces a sense of predictability. There's a patchy and unsuccessful attempt to try and make it seem like a gritty 'docu-drama', by including interviews with the main characters talking straight into the camera: these are over acted and become slightly irritating. In general, the directing and acting is over done for much of the time, although a few of the cast do seem to be doing their best .

Supervolcano was definitely not super for me. There are far better, and more enjoyable, natural disaster movies out there to watch - like the comparable Dante's Peak for example.
