- Synopsis:
Consultant Surgeon Sheila Sabatini is a force to be reckoned with. Ruling her operating theatre with her domineering behaviour, razor-sharp tongue and withering sense of humour, her colleagues have learned not to mess with her! Driven by her desire to succeed in a male-dominated environment, her stand-offish behaviour also masks a soft centre, though not many people get close enough to discover that. As well as the normal humdrum of daily crises on the wards she also has to contend with a slightly wayward son, her boyfriend and her soon-to-be ex-husband. Nichola McAuliffe gives a memorable performance as the spiky Sheila Sabatini, with Duncan Preston as Doctor Haslam.

Top surgeon Sheila Sabatini is famous for putting people's backs up, and that makes asking favours a rather tricky operation.

Sheila is very choosy about the anaesthetists she'll work with - but it is a surgeon's privilege to change her mind.
3. Joyce's Ulcer
Why is Joyce so resistant to the idea of an operation at her own hospital? It takes a woman-to-woman confrontation before Sheila can find out.
4. The Country, Right or Wrong
To the relief of the hospital, Sheila is persuaded to take a break, and who better to teach her relaxation that an anaesthetist?
5. Fame
When a fellow surgeon gets his picture in the paper, Sheila takes a high moral stand, a position from which it is hard to back down.
